Oskan padded slowly through the wooded area of Narnia. He was just thinking. The sire knew that Maurgrim was probably waiting for him. He knew where they were. But the whole point of his mission was to be a spy and find out information about Narnia. How is it I get myself into these messes... He thought, his muzzle earthward. Not only am I a spy for Aslan but I have also been assigned as a spy for Maurgrim himself. He snarled to himself. I know where my loyalties lay, with Aslan and King Peter. I will have to give Maurgrim false information. But what if he senses it? Oskan turned his star silver eyes skyward. He needed to talk to Aslan, or anyone from Narnia for that matter. Oskan howled as loud as he could into the dark stary night. His light, clear voice twirled and twisted through the night and floated up into the skys, seeming to spread its wings and streach over the land. "Aslan....Peter...I need you guidence....." He whispered.

The stars above twinkled bright as diamonds, but as the moon rose into the sky, it bathed the land with pale silver light. The trees above the wolf seemed to sway in a silent wind, but for a moment no reply came to Oskan.
It seemed almost to be a dream, and perhaps that was what it was, but suddenly, silent as the moonlight a shape padded across the forest floor, its paws making no sound. As the figure approached, Oskan could see that it was a great Lion, his golden fur turned to silver in the moonlight.
"Oskan, my son, why do you cry to the stars in the night?" His voice was soft and gentle.

Oskan turned around and bowed low, his ebony muzzle nearly touching the white snow in front of him. his silver eyes never left Aslan's gentle golden face. "I seek guidence Aslan. I feel lost...I gnow my loyalties lay with you and your children, but I have been assigned to spy on you and the whole of Narnia...And I must do this in order to keep my cover. I will NEVER turn in the secrets of Narnia though. Never...But I fear that Maurgrim will see throug me as he does all things..." Oskan's soft, clear voice.

Aslan walked closer to the wolf. "Oskan, you have great courage in putting yourself into this position. The days grow darker once more, and courage will be the turning point. Be strong of heart and will, and Maugrim, servant of the White Witch, will be decieved longer yet. But know this, High King Peter and the others need to know of your deeds."

Oskan nodded his head and and looked up at Aslan, before looking back down at his black paws. His silver paws clouded for a second as he thought of what happened to the last wolf that disobeyed an order. But just then Aslan's words echoed in the depths of his young pup mind. Courage... "You are right...But I don't know how much courage I still have." Oskan shook his head and stared out into the beautiful snowy forest he knew and loved. It was here he had met Aslan...But then again, it also was the place he had ran into Maurgrim so many years ago. "I despise Maurgrim...Before I met you Aslan he taught me pain and suffering. And the White Whitch...She just seemed so right then. They played me as a paun and for that he must pay. And yes, High King Peter must know of this..."

Aslan's gaze lifted to the stars for one moment, and then he gazed into Oskan's eyes. "You have more courage then you know, son of Narnia. If you focus on your love of that which is good, instead of letting your anger and fear lead you, you will find the strength you need."

Oskan's ears drooped and he nodded. "Yes my king. I must do as my heart commands and it tells me often that I must have faith and as you said, courage. It is my lonerness that keeps me apart from the others of both Narnia and the Relme of the White Witch. I must go where the wind takes me, for that is the true destiny of the wolf." Oskan lowered his head for a moment. All the shadowy sire wanted to do mainly was vent, and he knew Aslan wouldn't mind. "It is a lonely path but I must take it..."

The great Lion nodded. "The path that we must walk in life is never straight, nor easy. Courage, dear one, all will turn out all right." Aslan bent his head so that his forehead touched the wolf's. For a moment a golden warmth flooded through the black wolf, filling his sight with sunlight. When it cleared, Aslan was nowhere to be seen, and the stars still wheeled overhead.

Oskan whimpered in pleasure at the lion's touch but when he did look up the young sire nearly gasped. The great lion was gone! He gave a small sideways grin, for the great Aslan always did such. But his head lowered and his eyes clouded as all the things his friend told him flooded in. "Yes my friend, the path IS never straight. That is why I cut through paths...." He whispered. "Never go where a path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail..." The cold winter air tugged at his coal black pelt. And with that he got up and left. He had to speak to King Peter.
