((So sorry I was gone!))
Peter turned as he heard Susan's voice, and another voice addressing him at the same time. "Yes," He said, turning to face the newcomer, wondering how he had gotten aboard.

Torin wheeled and circled in the skies, the salty thermals carrying and tossing him on the wind. Lions' tail whipping behind him, he cried and dove lower as he saw a ship. 'Scree!!' the gryphon squawked as he glided over the waves, occasionally flipping and allowing water to shower his flanks. He attempted to fly higher, but found that the effort was beginning to tire him out. He needed to land somewhere... Torin managed to hover over the boat, studying the passengers with golden orbs. 'Kind sirs and madams, may I land on your boat? I'm afraid that I don't have the energy to make it back to the shore,' he chirped, almost sheepishly. His muscles began to strain and ripple under iron feathers as he struggled to stay aloft.

Peter nodded and waved to the gryphon. "Of course, everyone clear a space for him! Land here on the main deck!"

Torin cried gratefully and swooped down onto the main deck. As he landed gracefully nearby the others, his head drooped in fatigue. The creature panted and his muscles strained under glossy silver fur. Torin tucked his wings into his sides and bent one of his forelegs, causing him to slip and tumble onto the deck with a thump. The flight had been more tiring than he thought, and the effects were beginning to show.

Peter was at the gryphon's side instantly. "Are you feeling all right?" He brought over a bucket of fresh water. "I'll bet you need some water after that flight."

'Thank you, kind sir,' Torin squawked hoarsely. His eyes were not yet rid of the salty water that had sprayed over his feathers, but nonetheless he turned his blind head towards Peter and bowed deeply. With a deep breath, he drank thirstily from the bucket, cool water sliding down his parched throat. The gyphons' tail began to sway from side to side, a sign of satisfaction as he continued to drain the container.

Susan grinned as the gryphon landed, hastily helping Peter. "Would you like any food?" she asked inquiringly, bending over and craning her neck to get a better view of Torin.

'Food would be wonderful, thank you,' Torin gasped as he resurfaced from his drinking. The gryphon raised his head and bowed to Susan, crest fanning out behind his head in greeting. He wasn't sure if the others would understand this gryphon equivalent of a handshake, but nonetheless he smiled and bowed again, before returning to his drinking. How foolish I was to try and fly over this sea....it can't be done, Torin thought, disappointed in himself. The gryphon had been attempting to make his way over the ocean and back, as a test of his strength. Feats like this were often performed by members of his family, a clan of phoenix-griffins, but Torin was an outcast. He always wanted to prove himself, but along with his dull iron colouring and weaker build, he had none of their abilities. The thought made a small growl of bitterness at himself rumble in his throat.

Peter held out his hand to the gryphon in a gesture of welcome. "Well, allow me to welcome you aboard our ship. I'm Peter, and this is my sister Susan. If I may ask, why were you trying to fly so far out to sea?"

'Well....its' a long story, but one I would be willing to make it more concise if you so desire. This was really a test of strength, set by my family. You see, they are all phoenix gryphons, and much stronger than I. They believe that the only way that I will no longer be an outcast is to prove my own power, thus showing them that I am an honourable part of the clan. I was sent to bring the feather of a bird that lives on an island far from here. I doubt that such an island exists now, but I do not know the entire geography of Narnia, I'm afraid. Have you seen any islands on your travels? If so, then maybe I can prove to them that I am not a weakling...'Torin trailed off, the last word spat as if it was poison on his tongue. As the bitterness from his face faded, he held out a paw, mirroring Peters' handshake. Balancing on the three legs, the gryphon looked almost comical as he waited for a return in the gesture.

Peter gripped the gryphon's talons and shook it firmly. "Well, there are several islands nearby. Perhaps if we looked at a map." He disappeared for a moment in the cabin, but reappeared with several maps. He unrolled one on the deck for the gryphon to see.

Torin nodded, his eyes closing in gratitude to kind Peter. 'I'm looking for an island that is shaped a bit like a teardrop. Let see...' he muttered, eyes focusing on the yellowed paper. He quested the parchment for the outline of the island, murmurs of deep thought rumbling in his throat.

Susan examined the maps. "I don't know if there is one...Then again, my mapping skills are terrible," she said ruefully, hopelessly pointing to random islands.

'I'm sure I'll find it.... eventually,' he smiled, although uncertainly. <It could all be a trick, you know...maybe your family wanted to get rid of you once and for all> Torin thought bitterly. He shook his feathered head to clear it of these miserable ideas, and resumed scanning the map for any signs of his destination.
